(Hybrid) Rich Exchanges with Prof Nazira Karodia: Authentic & Innovative Assessment. In-Person / Online
Colleagues are invited to join Professor Nazira Karodia, Vice-Principal Learning & Teaching, in the Active Learning Suite (Craiglockhart 1/07) for a VP's Rich Exchange focussing on Authentic and Innovative Assessment. We will be hearing from colleagues sharing examples of their work using innovative and authentic assessment approaches to help enhance the learning of their students and address some of the contemporary challenges facing assessment practice in higher education, such as Generative AI.
Please come along and join the discussion on a timely and relevant topic where you can hear from colleagues sharing their assessment practice and share your own. We will be joined by Dr Francesca Soliman, Dr Catherine Mahoney and Professor Zack Moir.
- Dr Francesca Soliman will reflect on her experience of swapping essays and exams in favour of case-study-based assessments and a face-to-face reflective dialogue in a level 8 core module, considering in particular the implications for academic integrity, accessibility and inclusion, and student attainment.
- Associate Dean of Learning and Teaching SHSC Dr Catherine Mahoney will share her innovative work using authentic assessment with one of ENUs largest cohorts, undergraduate nursing students. Catherine will explain how her use of authentic assessment aims to connect learning to real-world issues which are meaningful to the learner. Empowering learner choice within assessment not only enables valuable engagement with the ‘real-world’ of healthcare and beyond, but also transforms the experience of marking and feedback for assessors.
- Professor Zack Moir will provide an introduction of our new initiative ‘Student-Led Assessment for Sustainable Autonomous Learning’ (SASAL) in which he will discuss the value of student-led assessment, how we will be trying to support this here at ENU, and the ways in which you can get involved in the work.
Colleagues will also be able to take part digitally through MS Teams if they are unable to attend in person. Joining details are below.
